Maintenance Wizard to accomplish various useful tasks while your computer is idle.

This will make your computer little fast.

You might want to reschedule most of the tasks to take place once a month, like scandisk, defragment, etc., then remind yourself to leave the computer ON that night only so Task Scheduler can accomplish Tasks while your PC is idle.

1. Click the Start button and choose Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Maintenance Wizard.

2. Click Custom Mode-to set Maintenance Setting your self, click Next, and select a time when you want to perform the Maintenance wizard to operate choose night.

3. Click Next wizard will show you how you can start window quickly (this will be shown only if any items is there in StartUp folder) uncheck the item you don’t want windows to start automatically at startup or delete it from StartUp folder located in start menu > programs >Startup.

4. Click Next now wizard will ask you to add Defragment in schedule, Defragment will speed up your programs by arranging files which are spread all over Hard disk. Click Reschedule to change time of defragment.

5. Click Next now wizard will ask you to add Scan Disk in schedule, Scan Disk will check for errors in the hard disk. Click Reschedule to change time of Scan Disk. Click on Setting to change Type of scan i.e., Standard or Thorough. Standard will only scan folder and files for errors but will Thorough scan Standard scan and surface scan of the hard disk to see for any errors in the hard disk. I say you choose Thorough scan and also click on Automatically fix errors then press OK.

6. Click Next now wizard will ask you to add Disk Cleanup in schedule, Disk Cleanup will clear all temporary files, recycle files etc. click on setting and check all files and then click OK.

7. Click Next now click on When I Finish, perform each scheduled task for the first time if you want to perform Maintenance Wizard to run now and then click Finish.

OK you've set up your Maintenance Wizard to perform these tasks on one day of the month, be sure that there are no conflicts between the Disk Defragmenter and your power management, screen savers, or any other applications i.e., turn off screen savers and change power management to Always ON.
Be careful not to run intensive disk activities too often. Computer technicians recommend that you don't schedule a thorough scan of your hard disk every night, for example. This can wear out a hard drive more quickly than normal usage will. If you scan once a month that should take care of most problems that might arise.
